Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that the government will provide electricity to cinemas at cheap rates while all taxes of the industry are also going to be abolished.
Addressing the Pakistan International Film Festival on Monday, the Federal Minister said that it was the duty of the government to work for the rehabilitation of cinemas and film.

Addressing the youth interested in film production, the Federal Minister said, "If you youth want to make a film, we will give a loan of up to Rs 50 million." This kind of work is done with great passion, we are going to build the first school of technology.
He said that four universities are going to be set up in the country, while Hum News is in talks with Sultana Siddiqui to set up a film school in Karachi.
He said that schools of modern journalism and performing arts would also be set up.
Referring to the decline of the Pakistani film industry, he said that there were many elements to the decline of film, the Soviet Union's occupation of Afghanistan in 1980 was the biggest problem.

"The Soviet Union did not take over by asking us, but we suffered. Pakistan's liberal and progressive society is slowly turning to extremism, Indian society is moving towards this thinking, films will also be affected.
Referring to Netflix and Amazon, popular platforms for film and web series around the world, Fawad Chaudhry said that because of the lobbies there, Pakistani content could not run on Amazon and Netflix, so they would have to create their own platforms.
